Bauernroulette Game

Bauernroulette is a wheel game invented in Germany. The name of the game indicates that this is a "poor man's roulette", as "Bauer" is German for 'peasant' or 'farmer' etc. The game is played on a wooden circular playing surface with 6 balls (4 white, 1 red, and 1 green) and a spinning top. The balls are placed on the top and when spinning they bounce off and land in one of the hollow spaces or pass to the chambers outside the area of the spinning surface. The aim of the game is to have the ball land in one of the chambers, which brings the most points.

Step-by-step Rules

Bauernroulette wheel
Bauernroulette has a bit strange wheel
but the principle is the same.
  1. The balls (4 white, 1 red, and 1 green) are placed in the center of the playing field.
  2. The top is placed near them and spun (some players claim to remain the top spinning for over 30 seconds).
  3. The balls bounce around and are shot into the hollows or bowls.
  4. Each hollow and bowl has a point value, the points are added for each ball there.
  5. If some or all the balls fall out of the playing surface, they can not be replaced and are not counted in this round.
  6. The red ball doubles its points when it lands in a hollow.
  7. The green ball subtracts the indicated points from the overall sum gained by other balls.
  8. If the player gets scores for all 6 balls, he has the right to spin the top again.
  9. The aim of the game is to reach an overall total, that has been agreed before the game, this is usually 1000 points.

NB: in some variations, the score for the green ball can be valid only if the player gets a score for the red ball.
